As of 19:00 last night, the wilderness fires have all been successfully extinguished. The entire wilderness block has burnt and the threat to the rest of Pilanesberg’s removed for now. Thank you to all the Park Staff and WOF members that put their back into making an effort to assist eliminate the threat. My TUT student Reatlegile who has been at Stephen’s side throughout. Thanks Rea. Thank you also to Petra Rough and the Rebel Fire team from Rustenburg area, the Royal Bafokeng Platinum Mine Fire Team, Renier Meyer from Golden Era for the water truck, guides from Black Rhino Reserve and Andrew Jackson from Black Rhino Anti-Poaching Unit, and Clinton Calitz from Predator World. My pilots once again, Brandon and Jordan. Thank you guys, as well as the Copenhagen Zoo students, Joti, Cleo and Peneil. Anyone I left out, thank you! You all collectively saved the entire Pilanesberg from burning down. I’ll post a map of the entire burn as soon as I can.
