Rain’s adult cubs just made their first kill! A celebratory moment as we were hoping to see if they are able to provide food for themselves, and they are proving that they are. This means they will survive which takes so much pressure off Rain as well and park management. Please remember that Rain is at least 11 or 12 years old. Any interference is risky. We know everyone wants to help but please think of her as she is and always was… wild. In the wild the average age for cheetah is 9 to 10 years and Rain has already exceeded this. Any operation also means a 6 week recovery period in a confined space. Is that really what one wants for her? Does she want that? Will that stress not kill her if she even wakes up from an operation? Where do we go with her cubs as they clearly still want to be with her. The answer is not easy. But the fact that the cubs successfully hunted is a great plus for now.
