We appeal to all park visitors, whether you are driving in Pilanesberg or another reserve or park, please be aware of creatures on the roads. Many animals will use roads as pathways (they provide a much easier route for the animals to travel along), heat (certain species will rest on the road in winter as the tar or sand retains heat), and during certain seasons the roads are a hive of insect life. Road kill not only affects the animal who is run over. Every animal who comes to feed on or investigate the dead creature is also now at risk. By being aware of what animals are in the road and adhering to the recommended speed limit (40kmph on tar and 30kmph on dirt roads in Pilanesberg) you can prevent the senseless deaths of countless animals, big and small. Thank you.
