As the year closes, we reflect on 2017… A lot of amazing things took place in this magical place. Guests have had some stunning sightings and experiences here. Memories that will stay with them forever I hope. There is no place like the Pilanesberg, fondly called the Gem. Besides its tremendous natural beauty, it also has such an abundant wildlife population and amazing bird life. Visitors to the Gem are continuously rewarded for their patience in her space, and at her grace.
2017 however has also been a brutal year for the Pilanesberg’s Rhino populations… We have lost in excess of 30 Rhino to murderers who supply a greedy market that is ignorant and ruthless in their determination to drive Rhino’s to extinction. We have battled the odds, faced many frustrations, and cried so many tears of heartbreak for these beautiful creatures we are determined to save.
We hope and pray that 2018 will bring hard hitting changes in the protection of our Rhino, as well as other endangered and threatened wildlife.
May the human species come to its senses and realise we are decimating our own and only planet. We are the only ones that can save it. We are the voice of the voiceless…
To all our supporters that stand at our side at all times, and give us the courage and faith to carry on each day, thank you each and every one of you. You mean the world to us, and the Rhinos of Pilanesberg. Without your support it would be impossible to continue on, financially, or emotionally. There are so many of you to thank… I will not mention each by name. You know who you are and you know what you mean to the Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust and the Rhino Protection Unit here.
Thank you, and may 2018 be a new and positive chapter for us all.
