An absolutely textbook perfect Rhino notching with SAB Botswana yesterday morning. Many thanks to SAB as well as Sean and Mark from Win Win International, and Wayne from Teambuilding Alliance for making this important veterinary and ecological work on Rhino possible. As many of you are aware, DNA can be extracted from Rhino horn making the prosecution of criminals of poaching more successful.

SAB were present while 2 Rhino were notched. The 2 Rhino, which Vet Dr. Nelie darted to immobilize, and Pilot Nico herded close to the road, were specific Rhinos we were looking for as the calf in this group had hurt itself. The calves’ entire horn had popped off somehow, and Park Management wanted the Vet to have a look at the calf to determine any permanent damage. Luckily all seems well, and the calf was treated and woken up to carry on as normal!

The SAB group thoroughly enjoyed their experience, and we would like thank them and the organisers for making this possible! We hope you take some really special and moving memories home to Botswana with you. Interestingly, Botswana has been the recipient of Black and White Rhino from South Africa, including from Pilanesberg! This was also an opportunity for the SA Wildlife College to get a little hands on experience in the Pilanesberg whilst they are with us for their 6 weeks practical. These students are from the local community studying at the college. Hoping to become future Field rangers!

Many thanks to all that made this notching possible, and to all that volunteered. Many thanks to Bakubung Guides and Lodge Management for assisting me with this group.
