Rhino notching with Toyota SA today. Awesome group of people that joined us for this notching of a 2 year old bull calf and his mom. While we were at work getting DNA we also trimmed their horns. As you all know, we collect the DNA of every rhino we work on for possible use in poaching prosecutions. Funds for this work is made possible from donations and groups that book rhino notching in Pilanesberg with the PWT. The funds cover all veterinary and helicopter costs.
This mornings work went really well and the guests got to have a close up and hands on experience with one of Africa’s most iconic mammals. The little bull calf also had what looked like a bullet wound in his face. The vet treated the wound and it looks like an in and out shot to the face. There should be no repercussions for the little guy though. Thank you TOYOTA for making this work possible. We are so happy that you loved it as well. It was a truly moving experience for all. Thank you to vet Dr Gerhardus Scheepers and pilot Dolph Vd Merwe for the incredible work that you both do. Thanks to everyone on our team as well as all the guests. Particularly those that ‘walked’ our little man.
