Rhino notching with SAPPI today.  A very early wake up, and then off to Shepherd’s Tree Game Lodge to meet the guests. Steve gave them a talk about rhinos and the conservation of this threatened species. Dr Gerhardus Scheepers then gave a talk on the drugs used, and physiology of rhinos. After the talks we saddled up the guests while pilot Dolph Vd Merwe and Gerhardus set off to find a rhino. Gerhardus managed to find and immobilize three rhinos.
We set about notching and dehorning the rhinos with the guests. As always it was an awesome, amazing, and moving experience for the guests and for us. One truly realizes the impact of what is happening to Rhinos when you spend time with them in such close quarters. And what a privilege it is to see these iconic animals up close and personal. To be in the same space as they are. Everyone is of course saddened by the fact that Rhinos are still poached even though enough info is out there that proves there is no medicinal value, or reason, to kill these amazing mammals simply for their horns. Thank you once again to SAPPI for making this work possible. Thank you for letting the passing guests experience this too! Thank you to our A Team for the impeccable work today. You are the best!
