This morning proved to be awesome for a rhino notching and horn removal, starting with a talk to the group last night, then in the gate early am. Straight to the far side so as to avoid weekend traffic. We had a leopard on route with sightings of cheetah and lion on the same route. What a place to live in. The notching and horn removal went very well. Mom and youngster were darted simultaneously and ran together till the immobilising drugs took effect.
The helicopter fuel cans gave them a little fright on their little run around! Their wake up went exceptionally well with the rhinos calling to each other. Super emotional experience as always. It’s our responsibility and our passion to look after this and other threatened species to the best of our ability.
It is with great thanks to TENTED ADVENTURES, and their guests, for making this experience and work possible.
Thanks Dr Gerhardus Scheepers for your awesome hands on with the guests and thank you pilot Dolph Vd Merwe for your amazing handling of the necessary flying. And little Yuvan for his enthusiasm. Good to have you back Charlotte!
