Some planned burns took place in the park this week. Letsha and Tau link were both burnt successfully with no harm to any animals and humans thankfully. Almost immediately following the burns there were rhino, zebra, kudu, impala and a leopard on these burns. Amazing how many birds were around as well. Thank you to every one of the teams out there that work so hard each fire season to keep park, animals and people safe. Burns are a management tool to make sure wildfire threats are reduced or limited in terms of how far they can spread when they do come in unannounced. Everything is considered before a burn is started, including elements such as wind speed and direction, ambient temperature, and dew point. This is to ensure to the highest possible degree that the planned burns do not flare out of control and cause more damage than good.
