Some lion work in the Pilanesberg the last 2 weeks. Collars were fitted or exchanged, and lions branded (subtly) so that Park Management can identify who is who and find the different coalitions. Usually only one lion in a coalition will be collared, but all will be branded. All went well and the necessary work was completed without any issues. Many thanks to vet Dr Gerhardus Scheepers for dropping everything to get here. Drones supplied by Copenhagen Zoo also assist hugely in making sure the correct lions are located. On the last coalition we worked on in Black Rhino Reserve – thanks to the guides for keeping management posted and for assisting us on site. Thanks also to the park visitors for your patience and cooperation. As you may or may not be aware, the Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust (PWT) raises all the necessary funds for this and other conservation projects in Pilanesberg National Park.
