Wildfires once again coming in to the Pilanesberg National Park and making everything hectic here. Pilanesberg is pretty much surrounded by communities and as it is winter people are making fires. Some of these are truly accidental, others are on purpose. This fire came in from Mogwase side close to the Manyane gate. It was put out, but seems the perpetrator came back. The entry to the park at Manyane was also set alight, however this fire fortunately was contained quite easily. This fire however has been horrific and costly. A large area has burned. No animals were harmed or killed from what we can see. The bat hawk went up and did an aerial patrol. Probably some reptiles and small species may have perished, but it’s hard to tell. Getting teams in to assist also costs. The Rebel Fire Team has been called in from Rustenburg to assist. Hopefully we will have this under control by tonight.
Thank you to all that assisted: Bakubung Bush Lodge, Ivory Tree Game Lodge, Golden Era, and Rebel Fire Rustenburg. Also all our own staff, thank you.
