A hectic day in Pilanesberg today. A black Rhino calf was found with lions feeding off the carcass. We have to assume that the lions killed her though there is no witness that we know of. No mom in sight so we will do a recce to look for her. Park management flew over the area and found the calf’s mom. She is alive and well. Sadly not as good a mom as she could be. Or perhaps the calf was ill and she abandoned it. We do not know.
Thanks Debbie Lee Fendick for reporting this and for the footage. Then as if that was not bad enough, one Rain’s female cheetah cubs was killed by a female leopard as well. A truly rough day in the bush.
