Another day of fires as a lightning storm came over Pilanesberg on Saturday night. No rain fell but the WoF team as well as park management and volunteers battled all day to get the fires under control. The fire was spotted on Lenong by the Makanyane Volunteers Saturday night and the teams with volunteers all went up again early the following morning to try to contain the fires. It was an exhausting and trying day for everyone who faced smoke inhalation, dehydration, and exhaustion. Crazy hot winds and at times terrifying conditions as those fighting the fire had to trek up and down the hill to keep replenishing their knapsacks and own water supplies. The last of the team finally came out the park way after dark. Hopefully it is all contained but to be sure park management will be checking before dawn today. Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly, stuck it out, and went beyond their limits. You pushed all the boundaries!
