Update on Lion: 23 – 25 March 2022
Still no sign or sound from the lion. Yesterday everyone returned to the scene again and a thorough search of the area was done. Master tracker Bennet De Klerk and many others were also on the scene and in the area to assist with their skills. No luck in finding the escaped lion. If we have any new news I’ll post again. Thank you all for your concern.
Update on the escaped Lion: 21 March 2022
No further tracks or sightings have been reported of the escaped lion. We do not know where the lion came from in the first place as there are no direct tracks leaving the park. We do not know where it went as no tracks were found of the escape route. Suffice to say it could be from Pilanesberg but we cannot assume until we investigate further. The search continues.
Escaped Lion:
Morning all. A lion allegedly escaped Pilanesberg National Park and was seen in Mahobieskraal area close to Tweelagte (near Shepherds Tree) by a farmer whose goats were mauled by the lion. The farmer took a couple of shots at the lion and it ran away. Yesterday Park management and park rangers did an extensive search of the area. Searches were also conducted by air in our Bathawk and a helicopter. A bait trap has also been set up. The lion has not yet been captured. There is a possibility that it was mortally wounded or injured when the farmer shot at it. We ask the communities around them park to be vigilant and to call our control room or their local SAPS if they see the lion outside the park. Pilanesberg Control room number is 014 555 1606.
