Sadly Dexter, one of our beloved K9 members, passed away on the weekend. Dexter was taken to the Vet Friday night after he was found lying down and not responding in his kennel. The Vet treated Dexter for snake bite as well as poisoning as he was presenting symptoms for both possibilities. Though Dexters’ vitals improved at the Vet, while Kobus his handler was there, he sadly passed on from his illness during his stay a few hours later. Dexter’s remains have been sent for a postmortem so that we can determine the cause of death.
We are devastated by the loss of this great animal, and needless to say Kobus, Dex’s handler, is heartbroken. You are in our thoughts Kobus…Dexter was donated to the Pilanesberg by Elise and stoprhinopoaching.com in 2013. Kobus and Dexter have been together since March 2013 as a team since then, and had formed an immensely close bond.
Dexter will be sorely missed, but his spirit will remain with us always… RIP Dexter.
