Defcon III Rhino Project and Pilanesberg:
The Defcon III Rhino Project is more or less the result of a successful cooperation between a little South African company and our scenario paintball team and has been established in 2015. We got a great and free support by this company and this led into our idea: let’s give something back and let’s support the game conversation and especially the rhino protection activities in the Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa.
Next to the fact that we collected direct donations we informed the paintball players we met on european paintball events or have liked our Facebook page about the ongoing rhino poaching crisis.
After a visit of the Pilanesberg National Park in September 2017 with a first donation to the Pilanesberg wildlife trust of 7,500 ZAR we intensed our activities and developed some ideas for 2018:
A:
Collection of direct donations by teammates, our families and a lot of friends of our team in our Rhino Project donation box. Depending on the donated amount we provided them with a dedicated Rhino Project patch as a little thank you.
B:
Organizing and selling food to the ~60 attending players at our Defcon III Training event ‘Operation Molon Labe I’ in Czech Republic in March 2018. Almost all of the delicious chili has been sold and since we had -20 Celsius (feeling) it was a very welcome way to get some heat back to the body.
C:
Organizing and selling Faction patches to the ~160 attending players at the ‘Operation Stonehaven’ event in France in April 2018. All patches have been sold to the players within the ‘Spetznas’ and ‘Special Forces’ factions.
These activities have been such successful that we were proudly able to donate another 1,000 € (~15,000 ZAR) to the Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust this May.
And we are very happy to say that we have some more ideas for the ongoing Paintball season.
