Story courtesy of Sue Brown:

Early this morning on morning patrols, Jefferson and Steve experienced engine failure resulting in a emergency landing. Jefferson was transferred by Ambulance to Rustenburg Medi Clinic, Steve was airlifted to Johannesburg.

Jefferson has broken hand bones and possibly tendon damage, bruising and shock, he is now back in the park resting and will transfer to Cape Town on Monday to see an Orthopedic surgeon. Steve has a spinal fracture to his T12 and will remain in ICU, also bruised and suffering shock.

Considering the impact and images of plane both are doing incredibly well. Perry and I have been inundated with messages of support and wrapped in kindness from friends, family and the Rhino  community. Thank you all so much. I must give special thanks too Helen Thwaite-Hammill and Charlotte Marais. Steve and Jefferson you are both true heroes , Rhino  are lucky too have you . Time now for peaceful reflection and thanks .

Updates (4 Feb): Jefferson is now in Pretoria with a friend and will fly home tomorrow morning for consultation with a Orthopedic Hand specialist. Feeling shock, pain, bruising and all that accompanies a trauma situation.

Steve – is in a lot of pain controlled by medication .Luckily sleeping much of the time. Tomorrow more X-rays and possible operation on Tuesday to insert support screws and rods for spinal injury.
