Pilanesberg Tour de Wilderness – an annual event that gives me sleepless night, short nails and quick showers… No time for family, friends and my pups. It truly is a time when I have to try focus all I have on an event that we started back in 2014. It is always worth every effort, and needless to say the event has grown and we learn each year. We have an amazing team of volunteers and cyclists without whom this event would never have legs to get off the ground with.
2021 PTdW turned out to be one of the most eventful and successful cycle events so far. Although they are all amazing! Though numbers remain limited by choice, the work effort to make this event safe and successful is tremendous. I want to thank North West Parks Board Pilanesberg for allowing us the privilege of cycling this amazing venue! To all the cyclists, thank you for your support and contribution. Without your interest and passion we would not have an event. To the sponsors this year, CompCare Medical Scheme, thank you for your time and support. To the volunteers and donor organizations. Thank you for being there and making a difference. Eyes in the sky Raymond and Steve. To the lodges that always support the Pilanesberg National Park & Wildlife Trust, thank you so very much!
We rode Sat 9 October and Sunday 10 October. Two hot and tough rides. Well done to all my cyclists for the amazing spirit throughout. I never heard one single complaint out there. Everyone did as they were told in keeping the pelaton together, and that is saying something for cyclists! This team was amazing, encouraging each other and looking after one another. The routes take the cyclists into the wilderness regions of Pilanesberg that are mostly not accessible. Rough terrain, long hills, loose rock, and thick bush are all par for the course, along with amazing views and of course nice downhills. Thank you Cathy du Toit for managing the drinks stops without me. I think you have a few more admirers out there. Thanks to each and every cyclist, volunteer and donor. This was amazing. Thanks to the wildlife for sharing their beautiful space with us. All in the name of Rhinos!
